An accquaintance has a female GSD who is about one year old. This person seems to be a hypocondriac in general. Anyway, she emailed me saying that she thought the dog was "walking funny". She said she was going to have her hips xrayed. She sent me this email today and said based on this xray, she had the dog spayed and has decided that the dog has moderate hip dysplasia. I asked if she shouldn't have OFA review the xray first , but she said she doesn't have to pay OFA for what she already knows. Now, after having the dog spayed the same day of the xray, she is considering having the dog euthanized, saying she can't afford a dog with bad hips!
Any responses or critiques are welcome.

Please try to get this dog if she's intent on having it killed. Somone here can probably help rehome her. That's ridiculous. Tell you "friend" all GSD's walk "funny", it means nothing. Owners like this are why I stopped breeding dogs. She should buy a chiapet.

Euth the acquaintance and the vet, and find a home for the dog with someone who is neither stupid nor mentally deranged.
THIS is why selling to psychopaths is such a huge concern of mine! You say she's a hypochondriac in general....we have seen this several times on this board, and I know people like this in real life. Their kids all have some obscure disease no one's ever heard of though everyone else thinks they're perfectly fine, but they drag them from doctor to doctor until one finally tells them something wrong with the kid. They come off like big time animal lovers, but you talk to them and almost, if not all, of their animals have one ailment or another. Now, I don't believe the rest of us, myself included, are just that lucky to have multiple animals who are relatively healthy. These people have mental problems and the poor dog becomes and outlet for it. Munchausen by Proxy, it reminds me of. Sickening.

Evil creature trying to Euthanize a 1 year old female GSD, who has just begun her life and barely out of her puppyhood. Any vet who obliges her should have his license revoked. The dog should be taken off her hands and quickly sent to a truly loving home.

the positioning is about the worst I've ever seen.
the hips look even worse because of it, i bet if the positioning was correct they wouldn't look near as bad.
have the xrays done again, and this time by someone that knows what they're doing and have them sent to the ofa.
show her what correct positioning looks like and also the youtube video.........

maybe it will make a difference.

Look at the other xray in another thread. Hardly the worst positioned xray ever seen here. It's diagnostic. I doubt OFA would even ask for another. What looks bad about it? Do we know how old ths dog is?

Poor dog. I don't know a thing about what a good and bad X-ray would look like. On the flipside some breeders are psycho and don't honor their warantys until a court steps in and then still delay paying folks. Sistasmom Thanks for the link.
