There's no army nor navy in Iceland, Never has been in our 1037 years of existence. But we do train "special police" who do go out and work with the UN..
My namesake "Olafur Tryggvason", (my grandmothers brother), joined the US Navy and fought in the Korean war. After his tours, got stationed in the Icelandic Naval base due to his splendid linguistic abilities (spoke Icelandic fluently) which he of course hated. (joining the navy to get stationed in Iceland of all places.)
Kudos to all the US armed forces...
(well, I took the pledge of allegiance every day in school till we moved back to Iceland when I was 10)

Siemper Fi! To my dad that serviced our country in the Pacific.
To my husband who will be forever a "Marine" and my cousin
who served as a Marine and lost his life as a police officer serving
us.
To past and present: YOU all are a special group of men.....thank you for your
service!
