One of the pups from my first litter is doing Mondio and yes she is a GSD. This girl can jump like any Mal I have ever seen. The sport is a lot harder then Sch. You have a LOT of distractions and you never know what type of senerio they will have until the day of a trial. The dog also has to think for itself since the handler is not always right next to the dog. Also the dog can be out on the field for up to 45min-1hr (higher levels) The people I have met in the ring sports have been very nice but we all know every sport has some bad apples.
The OB is not much to look at and it is not precise but I would train Sch OB in any sport I choose. Remember in the old days of real schutzhund the dogs had to jump the palisade (hope I spelled that right) and they had an object guard but now that is gone. Most GSD's are over the standard in size to do ring sports and don't have the temperment or nerve to do the sport. I love the GSD and maybe with my next one I will try the sport but the key will be finding a med size dog with the nerve/temp to do it.
Most people who make neg comments about ring sports including helpers have no clue about the sport and choose not to open their eyes in anything except schutzhund. I felt the same way until I went to some trials and a few training clubs I realized how hard it really is and the amount of training that goes into it..I love schutzhund but it is changing and not for the better. Looks like just about anydog can get a sch title and I mean the ones that have weak nerves/poor temp etc. Schutzhund was used to weed out the weak and only let the strong survive and breed, but not anymore.

Could, would, somebody post some sites for Mondio that list clubs in different areas? Can't try if we don't know where.

I think GSDfan is correct. The Protection phase is more difficult in Mondio, but it gets evened out with the no Tracking and easier obedience.
One thing that makes Mondio more difficult is the lack of clubs and trainers. Almost every state in USA has 4 or more SchH clubs.
I really wish SchH would make the protection phase more realistic and unpredictable. It should be a bit more difficult. It would weed out the softer dogs and in the long run help out the breed. I also think that the focus needed in Obedience is useless. SchH Obedience wasn't always like that. One guy/dog started a trend that the judges held to standard. When is the last time a REAL working dog, on the street, was totally focused on his handler and not the surroundings. Very dangerous!

Thanks Don for always saying what I am thinking.
I want a PP dog for me, not for a podium. If my dog sits with his ass cocked a little out to the side, I really don't care. I also don't ned to track the guy after my dog puts a few good holes in him after breaking in. That's what the cops are for! Call me lazy if you want but I don't really need tha flashy stuff or the nose to ground tracking. As long as I have enough control over my dog that he does what is asked, the rest os just pretty.

2 things, just because the Sch trial is a rather "sterile" environment doesn't mean you have to train that way, and if you don't think a good helper can push a dog in sch as well as a "decoy" in ring, I question your knowledge of the dog sports in general. and #2 different doesn't always mean harder or more "real". They are still just exercises trained for a sport title and judged by a judge.

Zdog quote:
"if you don't think a good helper can push a dog in sch as well as a "decoy" in ring"
Not sure if that was directed to me but I never said and don't think that.
I said "The helpers "bring-it" alot more convincing than SchH helpers....especially club level SchH" I didn't say they weren't capable it's just not done on club level. Regional, national and Intl. levels there is absolutely more pressure put on the dogs. I don't claim to have a vast knowledge but this is what I've seen.

not directed at you, just some of the things I hear in general. Yes, I think they "bring it" more in the trial, I wish they were directed to by the judge more in a sch trial, but your training helper should push your dog as far as you think they can go to really test them, just cause it doens't happen in a club trial doesn't mean it shouldn't happen. That's what I was getting at, not trying to insult you personally
It just bothers me that a lot of people portray SchH as being weak and not a test and so watered down and some even go so far as to call it useless. Yeah, maybe trials don't once carry the prestige they once did ( i have no idea I wasn't around), but that doesn't mean it can't be used to test and show weakness and strength in a dog in your training and by your helpers.

Not ever gonna happen.
As far as easy OB, I think that you will find that dogs with fabulous OB are going to fail certain exersizes at the higher levels. There are so many things that can be done that totally mess with a precision OB dogs head. We can set up an exersize with the handler having to carry something so that the "precision" dog cannot get his correct position, and then have another decoy come and take him away.
Sch's obsession with precise OB is a problem with MR because of the variances that we can do on the field to confuse the hell out of the dog. Once we make it so the dog cannot get to where he has been taught is the only place to be, then we have got you. I think it is pretty........................pretty unrealistic, and you will not pass at the higher levels after spending years attaining that three.
MR is still very new here, and once people start getting over that whole "lets not get too carried away" thing that seems to be happening, then it is gonna be a lot of fun to play in Mondio.
